November 17, 2023 FHS’s Varsity hockey team will be playing against Mentor HS at the Rocky River Tournament at 6pm. Following games will be against St. Francis, St. Johns, Perrysburg, Anthony Wayne, Bowling Green, and Northview.
This year’s seniors are excited for the hockey season. But a few are also a little nervous and sad since it will be their last high school season.
“It’s sad in a way that I will never be able to play for my high school again. It is also such a happy moment because of how I have progressed and what it has taken me to get to this position. I’m nervous in a way that I don’t have another season, but I’m excited for it to start and play the game I love,” senior hockey player Seth Russell said.
The incoming freshmen are very confident about their first high school season. This season FHS will see how the class of 2027 will handle this new pressure.
“No, I’m not really nervous. This is like my 11th year of playing hockey and I pretty much know the whole team,” freshman hockey player Jackson Fleckner said.
The FHS Hockey team has a large support group. The group is called the Hockeyettes. The Hockeyettes decorate the locker rooms, cheer on the team, and hand out coupons.
“We help out with the team dinners, we hand out goody bags, Chick-Fil-A Powerplay, and Tim Hortons coupons, and we make locker decorations,” Hockeyette member, Bella Woltz said.
Findlay High School’s coach is very confident about FHS’s hockey team. So make sure to show support to the FHS Hockey team.
“I truly believe we will be successful. We have hands down the best goaltending and defense in the league, and arguably the State of Ohio. We will be extremely tough to play against due to our relentless work ethic,” Hockey coach Patey said.
“We have three defined goals that were picked by our captains. Dominate Bowling Green every time we play them. Compete in the Regional Final Game. Execute and hold opponents to 2 goals or less every game.” Hockey coach Patey said.
