School systems are one of the most important yet outdated systems in the world. If you look at phones, cars, and radios 100 years ago and then look at them today you will find big changes. But when you look at a school classroom you will find no changes beside instead of a chalkboard teachers use smartboards.

In the past, school prepared you for a factory job. But now factories aren’t the only career anymore. You can be an entertainer, or artist, or construction worker. But schools teach you in a way that would prepare you for a factory job. You sit in rows, told what to think, raise your hand if you want to speak, and need to ask for permission to use the bathroom, also given a short break to eat.

Schools think that intelligence is measured by standardized tests. These tests are too crude to be used and should be abandoned. But these words are coming from Frederick J. Kelly the man who invented standardized testing saying “These tests are too crude and should be abandoned.” but schools continue to use them. Students then believe that they are stupid when they don’t pass that history test of sturgale in math but in the words of Albert Einstein “Everyone is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole live beleving that it is stupid.”

Schools teach kids the same leason the same way to every student. Imagine if a doctor gave all his patiences the same medicine the result would be horrible some many would get sick or remain sick cause they are treated the same way. But yet we do this to our students. Now of course math, english, government, and economy is needed, but so is art, music, computer classes.

There are things that schools change to make American schools better like in other countries. Take a look at finland teachers who are paid a great wage, homework is nonexistent, and test scores out perform every country in the world. But schools are not stuck like this cause an error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.
