Kendrick Lamar has previously performed at the Super Bowl as a guest to Dr. Dre’s halftime show in 2022, but now he’s taking the spotlight. Lamar has been a popular rapper since he released his second album, “Good Kid. M.A.A.D City” and has recently gained more fame and recognition from the rivalry between him and Drake, another celebrity in the rap music industry. The controversy of who’s the better rapper has been incredibly relevant and has overall contributed to this opportunity for Kendrick.
“I feel good about Kendrick Lamar playing; I’m team Kendrick,” freshman Gigi Howard says.
Fans are buzzing with excitement, speculating which of Lamar’s hits will make it to the setlist. His top-streamed songs on Spotify, “Not Like Us,” “Like That,” “All The Stars” featuring SZA, “Money Trees,” and “HUMBLE,” are strong contenders.
“I think he’s going to play ‘Not Like Us’ because it’s his most popular song. I want him to play ‘All The Stars,’” Gigi Howard added.
Many wonder whether or not Kendrick’s show will live up to the Super Bowl performance from last year. The previous Super Bowl, on February 11, 2024, was given by Usher. He played songs such as “Love in This Club,” “Yeah,” and “Turn Down for What.” He also brought out Alicia Keys, Lil John, Ludacris, and will.i.am as guest singers.
“I’m a bigger fan of Kendrick’s music than of Ushers, even though I still loved Usher’s performance,” freshman Lily Rhoades says.
Lamar has multiple collaborations with all kinds of artists such as Taylor Swift, Travis Scott, SZA, and more. Because of this, there has been a lot of speculation as to what guest singers will make an appearance during his performance.
“I want him to bring out SZA so they can perform ‘All The Stars’ together,” freshman Gigi Howard says.
The Super Bowl halftime show has always been a centerpiece of the event, drawing millions of viewers. With Kendrick Lamar taking the stage, this year’s performance is sure to be memorable, continuing the tradition of captivating and controversial shows.
