FHS Implements Shortened Lunch Periods: A New Normal for Students
This school year, Findlay High School (FHS) has adopted a significant schedule change, reducing lunch periods from 30 minutes to just 20 minutes. This decision aims to maximize instructional time but has left many students adjusting to a new reality.
As the school year progresses, students are beginning to feel the effects of this shortened lunch. Many report that the new schedule feels rushed, leaving little time to enjoy meals or socialize. The reduction in time has made it challenging for students to find a balance between eating, relaxing, and preparing for their next class.
However, the actual experience of the students suggests that the benefits of increased instructional time come at a cost to their daily routines and well-being.
In an attempt to address concerns and provide students with more opportunities to recharge, the school has introduced additional snack breaks throughout the day. While some students appreciate the gesture, it hasn’t fully compensated for the lost lunchtime, with many still feeling the impact of the shortened periods.
They acknowledge the importance of lunch as a time for students to relax and connect with peers and are committed to finding a balance that works for the student body.
As FHS moves forward in the school year, students are hopeful that their experiences will be taken into account, leading to possible adjustments that prioritize both academic success and social engagement.
