The FHS gymnastics team starts their season strong with eight girls. Their first match will be December 23, 2023 at 10am in a Tri Match.
As an athlete, there are multiple reasons for changing up the season from last year. Coming into high school is a big transition especially with sports.
“Doing gymnastics in middle school is a lot different mostly because we didn’t have a team from the school. I think now will be better for not only me but the other girls because we are able to connect with older classmates and get help as needed” freshman Emily Cole said.
Changing seasons is hard for many athletes. They are always surrounding themselves with new people and new levels of skill to work towards.
“Now that I am with more people in my grade, I felt it was important to learn from them and continue to work towards them. As for new friends, I think I should be as open minded as possible, especially to get better.” freshman Lilly Huff said.
It’s normal for athletes to feel nervous about their first year of high school sports ,but once the matches and practices start and they start participating with their team, the nervousness starts to fade.
“I’m feeling nervous about this upcoming season but I’m excited to compete with my teammates and represent Findlay High School,” freshman Josey Weihrauch said.
The Findlay gymnastics team has worked very hard to get to where they are at this year, and the level of work it took to get to a new level depends on how long the athlete has been in the sport.
“I’ve been on a gymnastics team for Findlay Elite for five years now, ” freshman Josey Wiehrauch said.
The Findlay High School Gymnastics team starts their season pretty early in the year compared to most sports. Their first meet is an away match at Tri-match in Defiance ohio.
“High school practices start on Monday, November 6th. Our first meet is December 23rd,” freshman Josey Weihrauch said.
