The 2022 Winter Olympics are currently in full swing right now in Beijing.This is the 24th Winter Olympics. These amazing athletes are competing once again after the delay of the Olympics last year.

There are loads of events this year such as fnowboarding, freestyle skiing, nordic combined, alpine skiing, hockey, figure skating and many more.

This world sporting event has not occurred since the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. As of February 9, USA is in 10th place out of 22 competitors in all with first-place being Germany.

The youngest competitor this year is 15 and the youngest competitor ever was a girl named Cecilia Colledge who was 11 years old when she participated in the 1932 Winter Olympics. Just last year a 13 year old girl Momji Nishiya won a gold medal in skateboarding,¨ as stated by the Hill.com

Hockey is one of the sports that many people key into during the Olympics with its fast paced intensity which is as physically demanding and similar to American football. Just two years ago the Women’s USA hockey team won a gold medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. It’s going to be a change of pace because Americans would mainly tune in to see what happens for the USA and Canada due to many of the players on those teams coming from the NHL. But this year the NHL has decided not to send its players to the Olympics. This sadly shown because as Michael C. Jett put it ¨it’s upsetting to know that our country’s star players are being restricted without a choice.¨

Skiing is always a super jam packed event with over 12 races just in the cross country skiing category. USA currently has one medal but with many events taking place on Wednesday, February 16th there is much room for improvement and a possible comeback.

On the other hand,in the Alpine skiing category, there are a total of 11 races with there being 5 for Women and Men with 1 mixed race.

Many people may not know this about the Olympics, but the mascot for the 2022 Winter Olympics is a Panda named Bing Dwen Dwen and the 2022 Paralympics mascot is a glowing lantern named Shuey Rhon Rhon.

Figure Skating has many ways for people to show off their style, culture,and talent. The recently popular topic about the Figure skating portion of the Olympics is Nathan Chen who is representing the USA for the men’s figure skating and put on an amazing performance earning himself a gold medal blowing the competition out of the water.

¨It was an astonishing performance that was unique to and different from the others” Findlay High School student Parker Miles stated.

There are so many opportunities that have been brought due to the Olympics and its many worldwide competitors and participants. With the next Winter olympics not happening for another four years this is the time to make a good impression on the judges. If that does not happen there will be plenty of time to recover and prepare for the next winter olympics in Milano , Cortina.
