With the end of a crazy year and the beginning of a new year, the NHL will start January the 13th. This year the 2021 season will be a completely different season for the NHL. Due to Covid-19 the NHL will have different divisions this year and play less games.

Usually NHL teams all play the standard 82 games, this year, they will be playing 56, they will be playing in custom divisions for the year as well. With the 2021 season being shorter, some fans are very worried about what could happen in the future for the NHL.

Kaleb Haubert, Freshman said, ¨The NHL has looked at shortening the schedule already a few years ago, fans did not like that, im worried it will be considered.¨

The new divisions will be completely different, The Central divisions teams are, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, and the Nashville Predators. The East divisions teams are, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabers, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, and finally the New Jersey Devils.

The west division teams consisted of, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, St. Louis Blues, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks. The north division has a very controversial Idea, all the division consists of is the Canadian teams including, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadians, and the Toronto Maple leafs. All Canadian teams in one division have stirred up some controversy but it is the only way to stay safe with Covid-19 due to Canada’s Covid-19 rules. During the 2021 playoffs, if Covid-19 is still a concern, the teams will bubble again.
