Jeopary’s Alex Trebek Dies
Alex Trebek, better known as the host of Jeopardy!, died on November 8, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. Trebek was 80 years old. He passed away due to a struggle of stage 4 pancreatic cancer which he revealed in March of 2019.
“Alex wasn’t just the best ever at what he did. He was also a lovely and deeply decent man, and I’m grateful for every minute I got to spend with him” Jeopardy! contestant Ken Jennings tweeted.
Jennings calls Trebek a great person and is thinking of his family who he believes had a huge impact on the millions of people who watched Jeopardy! and stayed caught up with his family.
“My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity. Your expressions have truly touched our hearts. Thank you so very, very much” Trebek’s wife, Jean Currivan Trebek said.
Jean thanks everyone for how supportive everyone has been throughout Alex’s entire struggle with pancreatic cancer. Before his passing, Trebek expressed how hard his wife was taking his diagnosis and was greatful of the supportive viewers of the show who sent cards and tweets showing compassion for both of them.
“For 35 years I’ve enjoyed the success of the show, but I’ve never really thought about the impact the program was having on American viewers. And I’ve become part of their lives” Alex Trebek said.
Alex Trebek recognized how much of an impact he had made on viewers’s lives. He says that he is thankful for all the support throughout the entire time that he has hosted the show.
“I remember watching Jeopardy! with my family almost every night. It is such a good show even though most of the time I didn’t know the answers” sophomore Christopher Beck said.
Beck says that Jeopardy! has been somewhat of a family tradition to watch and had hopes of possibly being on it even though he doubted it because of rarely knowing the answers.
“Its just really sad because he was honestly such a perfect host for the show and it was fun watching him” Beck said.
Christopher hopes that the next host is comparable to Alex Trebek but believes that no one could replace him completely.
“I guess the fact that he continued to host the show while battling his cancer proves that he was really dedicated and cared.” sophomore Paige Privateer said.
Privateer acknowledges how Trebek continued to host the show because he could have easily said that he was going to stop hosting it and focus on his health but he didn’t. She says that it shows how great of a person he was.
Alex Trebek’s death has had a huge impact on many people. Many have spoken of how great of a person and how great of a host for Jeopardy! he was and that his time as host will forever be remembered.
