As the editorial team of the ‘23-’24 edition of The Blue & Gold Today nears the end of their run together, let’s celebrate the seniors who made this paper what it is and wish them well on their move on to bigger and better things.
Holly Spitler
This year’s only four year member of the B&G staff, Holly Spitler, has been a dedicated member of the staff since day 1. Although her first year was rough, coming out of quarantine, it only went up from there. Holly serves as the editor-in-chief of The Blue & Gold Today and was responsible for the redesign of the paper’s layout this school year.
Writing is one of her passions in life and she enjoys writing long feature stories about issues that matter to her and she feels should matter to others, such as Climate Change and humanitarian crises around the world. Holly plans to attend Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio to major in Clinical Psychology and obtain her bachelor’s and master’s degrees to become a trauma-focused counselor. She will be a part of ONU’s Honors Program. While in college, she hopes to become a part of ONU’s newspaper staff as well to continue her love of journalism.
Her other passions include music and fashion, as well as doing hair, nails, and makeup. If college doesn’t work out as planned, she wants to become a cosmetologist instead. She loves to spend time outdoors during the spring and fall, despite her seasonal allergies, and enjoys reading. Her favorite thing to do, next to shopping, is spend time with her cats and talk with friends.
Lauren Gayhart
A 3 year member and just as dedicated, Lauren Gayhart serves as the Page 6 Feature editor. Lauren previously served as the Page 3 Entertainment editor and enjoys writing stories about pop culture, as well as about issues that matter to her.
Lauren will be attending Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio where she will be double majoring in Pre-Law and Social Computing. Lauren will also be a part of the cheerleading team for both the football and the basketball teams at Mount St. Joseph.
During Lauren’s time at Findlay High School, outside of being a member of the B&G, she was a Varsity cheerleader and participated in We The People. In addition to this, Lauren was also a figure skater for Findlay’s Silver Blades for 9 years. She enjoys spending time outside, listening to music and podcasts, reading and walking her dogs.
Shelby Craig
A 3 year member who’s ready to be done with the headaches she’s been blessed with when it comes to this paper, Shelby Craig has made great contributions to the staff during her time with the B&G. Taking on one of the hardest and most frustrating pages to do, Shelby was in charge of the Photo Essay page during the ‘22-’23 school year, and now both the Entertainment page and the “Special”/Holiday Feature page this school year.
Shelby plans to take her Gen Ed courses online for college, but is unsure of where she will attend college afterwards. One thing she is certain of though is that she will be majoring in Forensic Psychology wherever that may be.
Shelby was a twirler for Five Star Baton for 18 years, making it a major part of her life during the summer and fall seasons of the year. She thoroughly enjoys spending time with her Australian Shepherd dog, named Rogue. After graduation, Shelby ideally would like to move out of Ohio and start her life somewhere else.
