The lunch ladies of the high school spend hours a day serving students their lunches with a smile on their faces. It would seem most people do not think about them as they cannot even be found on the FHS staff page.
A usual day for most cafeteria workers includes heading into work around 9:30 am and counting all of the foods and drinks such as milk, ranch, chips, etc to make sure there is enough for all of the students. After turning on computers and checking cash registers, the usual part of the day most people know about begins.
“Then we usually just wait for the kids to come through,” lunch lady Kristy Proud explained. “I like it because it still follows the school calendar and I still get holidays off.”
Proud gives details about some interesting and sometimes even exciting interactions she has with many students. Getting to know the students throughout the years is said to make the job enjoyable.
She also explains the comfort of having a part time job after working as a home daycare provider for fifteen years.
“I moved to Ohio about two years ago and I just got lucky with a fun part time job,” Proud commented.
Making friends in the workplace is also a fun benefit of working in the school cafeteria. Although they have to wash and put away dishes and they have a bad day every now and then she speaks positively about the job. Some may want to think about working in the school cafeteria as a simple job in the near future.
