Depp-Heard Trial
Beginning April 12, the well known movie star, Johnny Depp, and his ex wife, Amber Heard have been involved in a heated trial that began with Heard accusing Depp of domestic abuse in 2018. Since, Depp has sued Heard with defamation for the toll it has taken on his reputation and career.
Depp first brought up the $50 million defamation charge against Heard in 2019 after being fired off of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise following the op-ed by Heard in The Washington Post. Within this, Heard discusses the treatment of women in abuse and sexual assault. While Depp was not mentioned by name, he was heavily assumed to be the cause of this.
Heard later cosued for defamation of herself by Depp due to his words of calling her “fake” and a “sexual violence hoax”.
On social media, the trial has been heavily criticized with heavy dismissals of Heard’s abuse claims against Depp.
“Never did I myself reach the point of striking Ms Heard in any way nor have I ever struck any woman in my life” Depp said during his testimony, dismissing the allegation of abuse.
Rather, Depp attested that he was abused by Heard pointing out a certain incident in which a vodka bottle was thrown at him and he was heavily injured.
Many people have testified in the trial including Christi Dembroski, Issac Baruch, as well as other well known figures. Multiple people are expected to testify later in the trial including Elon Musk and James Franco.
“I believe that there is a clear winner in this trial,” senior Emma Holdgreve said. “With all of the evidence coming out against Heard, Depp clearly has the upper hand.”
Holdgreve remarks on the makeup company, Milani, and how they got involved in the trial to clear their name from supporting Heard. She had shown a Milani color correcting palette saying that she had carried it with her everyday when she was with Depp.
Milani then came out and said that the palette she referred to did not even come out until after the relationship between Depp and Heard had ended.
Due to this single incident, Holdgreve as well as other people have supported Depp through the trial.
The trial is set to last six weeks.
