DMX OD

The death of famous rapper DMX took fans and the world by surprise. Earl “DMX” Simmons passed away after suffering from cardiac arrest after a drug overdose

The iconic hip-hop artist who had trademarked growls, barks, and a raspy voice had struggled with drug addiction and legal trouble since the ‘90s. After stealing a dog, dmx was sent to prison in 1986 and was in and out until early 2019.

Born in 1970, Earl was born in New York to teenage parents. By the age of 14, he was living on the street. After being released from prison when he was 16, he began performing on the street. It was here where he would form a team with Ready Ron.

The name DMX comes from the soundboard he used when he sang; an oberheim DMX. He later went on to say that DMX stood for “dark man X”

DMX started to get famous around the same time Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and Aaliyah did. Not only did he have a career in music, but he was an actor as well. He starred in movies such as “Belly” and “Romeo must die”. Simmons also made appearances in music videos, such as Aaliyah’s tribute music video “Miss you”.

Over the years, Simmons began to get into more and more legal trouble. It became apparent he had a drug addiction and spent time in prison and rehab.

Besides his legal drama, he always tried to help the less fortunate. In 2019, he helped a family in Maine with back to school shopping. In 2017, he made an appearance at a homeless group, where he was many years before, and gave them advice, eating dinner and playing games together.

Earl Simmons is survived by his 15 children and his mother.
